One of the treats that I like to occasionally indulge in is to go out to eat. There is nothing better than someone else preparing food and then doing the cleaning/ washing up as well.
We don’t head into Lewes that often, but when we do I like to try somewhere new to eat. On the occasion when we ate at Le Magasin, we didn’t have any milk in the fridge, it was either a walk across the street to the local shops or as my husband suggested, grabbing something while we were out instead.
We had narrowed it down to a choice of two places where we had hoped to eat, and Le Magasin was the first one we walked past. Plus luckily there was a table outside. We wanted to make the most of the fine, sunny weather.
Menus at the ready, we started to contemplate what to order.
Cakes were spotted from where we were sitting outside. But we all had a desire for something savoury.
My son knows that I tend to take photos of what we are about to eat, so he warned my husband that I was about to take a photo of yet another cup of coffee (as well as my son’s hot chocolate).
It was Eggs Benedict for my husband, who told me afterwards it was really tasty and he wished he had let me have a taste.
For the mini Britalian it was scrambled egg and bacon. I can vouch for how tasty the bacon was, as he got full quickly and let me have some.
For me it was a savoury croissant filled with cheese and ham. Once I saw it on the menu, I knew that was what I wanted to have. Choosing this particular option took me back in time to when I worked in a deli part-time on weekends when I was at uni as this was something we served. I loved it then, and I still love it now.
One day we will have to return for either lunch or dinner.
Do you have a favourite local cafe?
